Northwind Arts Center invites you to the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence Street, on Friday, June 21, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The new exhibit is free and open to the public from June 21 to October 17.
Library visitors will enjoy a diverse selection of art from four area artists: Danielle Bodine (Clinton, small-figure textiles), Monica Gutierrez-Quarto (Port Angeles, woodcuts and painting), Steven H Hammond (Port Ludlow, acrylic painting), and Carol Nielsen (Port Ludlow, mixed media).
Art is exhibited throughout the historic 1913 library, including the restored Carnegie Reading Room; the stately Carnegie staircase; and the Charlie Moore Art Case, which features small work.
Distinguished artists are invited to exhibit their work in the Art in the Library program. For example, Danielle Bodine has worked in textiles for over 35 years. Her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and art centers throughout the US, and is included in many private and corporate collections. Originally from Seattle, Danielle studied clothing design at the University of Washington, art therapy at Bowling Green University and received a BFA from the University of Michigan in weaving and textile design. Her work has appeared in numerous publications. Nationally, Danielle has been an invited artist, teacher, and lecturer in museums, colleges, and arts organizations focusing on contemporary concepts, methods, and materials in the realm of fibers.
Northwind Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization, and the City of Port Townsend sponsor the Art in the Library program. The goals of the Art in the Library program are to provide art for the enjoyment of library patrons and staff, to offer opportunities for visual artists and photographers to exhibit and sell their work, and to decorate and honor Port Townsend's historic library. This is the 16th exhibit in the Art in the Library series, which began in 2014.
Northwind also exhibits local art at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend, and at its two galleries at the arts center at 701 Water Street, Port Townsend.
