Olympic Music Festival: Russian Tributes

The Olympic Music Festival presents a summer season of concerts in partnership with Centrum at Fort Worden State Park in beautiful Port Townsend, WA. World class chamber music performances take place at the Wheeler Theater Saturdays and Sundays at 2 PM, with dates in July, August, and September. Medtner Sonata-Reminiscenza in A minor, Op. 38 No. 1
Prokofiev Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80
Tchaikovsky Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50
Dating back to Tchaikovsky's monumental Piano Trio written in honor of his friend and nationally treasured pianist Nikolai Rubinstein, Russian composers have used musical composition as a means of accepting tragedy. Medtner, who Rachmaninoff considered to be the greatest composer of his time, wrote his Forgotten Melodies, Op. 38 after being forced to leave his home following the Russian revolution of 1917.
