“Traditional Irish Folk Songs”
Debuts at February Candlelight Concert
For the first time with the Candlelight Concert Series, Happenstance will perform at February’s Concert showcasing “Traditional Irish Folk Songs” billed as: A Saint Patrick’s Day Warm Up! The concert will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor Street in Uptown Port Townsend at 7:00pm, Thursday, February 27th. The concert will be a celebration of Ireland, with traditional as well as contemporary songs. It will be an exciting warm-up to St. Patrick’s Day, which is on Tuesday, March 17
Happenstance will “stir up a storm” and help blow away the winter cobwebs with their own unique style of upbeat, traditional songs from the British Isles; with a special focus on Ireland. They refer to themselves as “very eclectic” and lots of fun. Be prepared to join in the choruses, be moved by Irish rebel songs, and dance the ceilidh. Songs will include, “The Auld Triangle” by Brendan Behan and “Wild Mountain Thyme”, traditional, words by Francis McPeake.
The band members are Chris Gilbert (vocals, guitar, banjo, uke, bodhran), Cherry Geelan (vocals, uke, tin whistle), Abe Christian (percussion, vocals), Jack Reinhardt (vocals, fiddle, mandolin, vocals, percussion), Hap Smith (Bass guitar, upright bass). They produced their debut CD album, “The Lark in the Morning”, in early 2018.
The concert will be performed at Port Townsend’s oldest Victorian Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor Street, across from the Community Center, Uptown. Doors open at 6:00 PM, – admission is by a suggested $10 donation (children admitted free). Refreshments will be served following the performance.
