The Summertime Singers return for their 9th appearance at the Candlelight Concert Series, Thursday July 25th at 7:00 PM. Summertime Singers includes singers from local church choirs, Community Chorus, RainShadow, and other music groups, dedicated people who sing in the summer because there is always beautiful music to do . . . and so little time! Colleen Johnson and Jonathan Stafford will be conducting the choristers. Pianist Helen Lauritzen and cellist Maryann Tapiro will accompany the Singers at this year’s concert.
Director Johnson states, “The musical theme for this year’s performance is entitled, “Bel Canto,” which means beautiful singing!” And Johnson emphasizes, “That is our Goal for this Candlelight Concert!”
Selections include, Bruckner’s “Locus Iste” is in Latin, Bach’s motet “Lobet Den Herrn” and Brahms’s “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” will be sung in German, and Faure’s “Cantique de Jean Racine” is in French – translations will be provided.
The concert will be performed at Port Townsend’s oldest Victorian Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor Street, across from the Community Center, Uptown. Doors open at 6:00 PM, – admission is by a suggested $10 donation (children admitted free). Refreshments will be served following the performance.
