Jefferson County welcomes community voices in health assessment
Jefferson County Public Health’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is conducting a comprehensive health assessment of the community, the purpose of which is to understand current health needs of county residents and to identify where and how health can be improved.
The outcomes of the community health assessment will provide a comprehensive picture of local residents’ health. The assessment aims to determine the health priorities for the county for the next four to five years, and will become the basis for the next Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
CHIP wants to hear from everyone. The health assessment includes key community elements: three public forums – in Quilcene, Chimacum and Port Townsend; a series of consultations with local experts; and a community survey that will be distributed throughout the county.
According to Lori Fleming, co-executive director of CHIP, the community component of the health assessment will add vital information that will inform and update the current Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
“We are really excited to be able to add public input to the survey this time,” John Nowak, co-executive director of CHIP, added. “We believe that the community survey, forums and interviews will give us a much more complete view of what is happening with the health of our community.”
CHIP encourages all residents to participate. Public forums are planned at three locations, where lunch or refreshments will be provided.

Chimacum: Fire Station 1, 9193 Rhody Drive, Wednesday, May 15, 6:30 pm to 8 pm
Quilcene: Quilcene Community Center, 294952 US 101, Quilcene, Wednesday, May 29, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
