Fall Foraging with Maya Moon and Aragorn Deane
Focusing on the bounty of fall in the northwest, learn the basics of fall foraging and how to identify a variety of wild edibles. Maya and Aragorn will talk about edibility, medicinal use, and bring in live plants and fungi for you to touch, taste, and smell! The second to last Wilderness Wednesday - feel free bring something to share or grill at the potluck/campfire outside afterwards!
Wednesday, September 25th, 7-8pm
Olympic Peak Experiences with Mountaineer Extraordinaire Fay Pullen
Come meet the first woman/second person to climb (mostly solo) the 200 highest peaks in WA state and whose summit registers you will find on even the most obscure peaks in the Cascades and Olympics. Unassuming and delightful, Fay will share about her experiences climbing the 100 highest peaks on the east side of the Olympics, and her current endeavor to finish climbing the 100 highest on the west side of the Olympics.
You can read more about her here: http://www.alpinist.com/doc/web16b/wfeature-local-hero-fay-pullen
***THE FINAL WILDERNESS WEDNESDAY!!!*** Feel free bring something to share or grill at the potluck/campfire outside afterwards!
Every Wednesday 6-9pm
At Disco Bay Detour (all ages)
Join us for an evening focused on wilderness/outdoor adventure, a time to informally gather to pour over maps and share stories over drinks and food. The intention is to share collective knowledge with one another, build webs of connection among various outdoor communities, and to have fun delighting in one another's adventure planning, stories, and questions.
Most evenings will also feature a wilderness related presentation or workshop, with topics ranging from surfing, climbing, conservation issues, backcountry skiing, and kayaking to backpacking, local botany, flyfishing, natural history, and wild foraging.
Everyone is encouraged to bring maps, trip planning ideas and resources, gear questions, pictures, or whatever else you feel inspired to ask or share. Barring heavy rain, we have a grill going after the presentation and you are welcome to bring a potluck dish to share or something to grill (or grab something next door at the Village Store).
For both experienced and aspiring outdoor adventurers - all are welcome.
All are welcome to stay after the talk for Wilderness Wednesday's weekly post-presentation gathering around the fire outside. Bring something to share or to grill on the schwenker if you're inspired (the grocery store next-door is also open until 8pm), or just bring yourselves!
