Wednesday June 19th
Songs of the Olympics with Custom Correct Maps Creator Tom Shindler
Join local mapmaker and musician Tom Shindler for a rich evening of interwoven story and song about the Olympic mountains. After sharing a bit about how he became a map maker and what makes his maps unique, he will play his original songs interwoven with stories of Olympic mountain history, people, and wilderness locales. Prepare to fall even more in love with the unique character and history of this place we call home!
Join us for an evening focused on wilderness/outdoor adventure, a time to informally gather to pour over maps and share stories over drinks and food. The intention is to share collective knowledge with one another, build webs of connection among various outdoor communities, and to have fun delighting in one another's adventure planning, stories, and questions.
Most evenings will also feature a wilderness related presentation or workshop, with topics ranging from surfing, climbing, conservation issues, backcountry skiing, and kayaking to backpacking, local botany, flyfishing, natural history, and wild foraging.
Everyone is encouraged to bring maps, trip planning ideas and resources, gear questions, pictures, or whatever else you feel inspired to ask or share. Barring heavy rain, we have a grill going after the presentation and you are welcome to bring a potluck dish to share or something to grill (or grab something next door at the Village Store).
For both experienced and aspiring outdoor adventurers - all are welcome.
All are welcome to stay after the talk for Wilderness Wednesday's weekly post-presentation gathering around the fire outside. Bring something to share or to grill on the schwenker if you're inspired (the grocery store next-door is also open until 8pm), or just bring yourselves!
