Wilderness Wednesdays

A collaboration between Disco Bay Outdoor Exchange and Disco Bay Detour
Every Wednesday 6-9pm
At Disco Bay Detour (all ages)
Wednesday July 3rd
Beneath the Waves: Freediving the Kelp Forests of the Strait of Juan De Fuca
With Subsurface Enthusiast Ralph Riccio
7pm start
From jellyfish and sea cucumbers to greenling and otters, the surrounding waters of the Olympic Peninsula are filled with life. Freediving allows us to glide through the blades of an underwater forest soaking in the magic of the sea.
Wednesday July 24: Local Birds with Bob Steelquist
Local writer, photographer, and naturalist Bob Steelquist will present on the birds that inhabit our local seas, forests, fields, and mountains. For avid birders and those just curious alike, learn about the residents, migrants, and oddities that parade through our corner of the world. Bob will share his spectacular photos and in-depth knowledge, plus highlight the unique stories of several of these birds.
Join us for an evening focused on wilderness/outdoor adventure, a time to informally gather to pour over maps and share stories over drinks and food. The intention is to share collective knowledge with one another, build webs of connection among various outdoor communities, and to have fun delighting in one another's adventure planning, stories, and questions.

Most evenings will also feature a wilderness related presentation or workshop, with topics ranging from surfing, climbing, conservation issues, backcountry skiing, and kayaking to backpacking, local botany, flyfishing, natural history, and wild foraging.

Everyone is encouraged to bring maps, trip planning ideas and resources, gear questions, pictures, or whatever else you feel inspired to ask or share. Barring heavy rain, we have a grill going after the presentation and you are welcome to bring a potluck dish to share or something to grill (or grab something next door at the Village Store).

For both experienced and aspiring outdoor adventurers - all are welcome.

All are welcome to stay after the talk for Wilderness Wednesday's weekly post-presentation gathering around the fire outside. Bring something to share or to grill on the schwenker if you're inspired (the grocery store next-door is also open until 8pm), or just bring yourselves!
