WHAT IS TRANSCENDENTALIST SPIRITUALITY?

In this three-hour workshop (with lunch-break) we will explore the meaning of spirituality, the nature of Transcendentalist spirituality, and the spiritual practices of the Transcendentalists. We will also examine our own spiritual practices and consider how Transcendental practices might complement our own. No sign-up.
Before his retirement seven years ago, Dr. Barry Andrews served UU congregations in Spokane, San Diego, and on Long Island as parish minister and religious educator. He has written and edited books on Emerson, Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller. His latest book is Transcendentalism and the Cultivation of the Soul, published in 2017 by the University of Massachusetts Press. He was a Scholar in Residence at the Thoreau Institute, a Merrill Fellow at Harvard Divinity School and a recipient of the UU Angus H. MacLean Award for Excellence in Religious Education.
