Scythe Workshop
From Saturday, May 11, 2019 -  09:00am
To Sunday, May 12, 2019 - 04:00pm

Mow your lawn (or harvest your backyard grain crop) the old-fashioned way. When done properly, scythes can work as efficiently as a weed wacker (watch a great video here). Scythes must be sized to the operator, and this is your chance to make your own custom-fit scythe with woodworker Steve Habersetzer. Lots of fun!

Part A - Scythe Construction. This includes making a handle (snathe) for a scythe and creating a personal scythe outfit with everything needed for scything: blade, peening jig, sharpening stone, and stone holster :: $95 + $175 materials fee

Part B - Scythe Proficiency. Steve will cover a variety of sharpening, peening, mowing techniques and choosing the right scythe technique for your application. The class has ample time for hands-on mowing with feedback from someone who has mowed his orchard with scythe for over 30 years. :: $95

Part A&B- combine the two parts for greater discount :: $350

Part A- May 11th :: Part B- May 12th:: Port Townsend, Wa. :: 9am- 4pm :: adult :: Instructor Steve Habersetzer
