Port Townsend Gallery: A Tapestry of Jewels
Monday, December 17, 2018

In December the Port Townsend Gallery features A Tapestry of Jewels

Showcasing Five Jewelers

Andrea Guarino-Slemmons has been making beads and designing jewelry for 30 years. She enjoys walking the local beaches and collecting stones, glass and shells. For this gallery walk Andrea will be featuring themed jewelry of distinction focusing on ravens, mountains and trees from the Pacific Northwest. She will also have many of her hand forged bracelets and earrings.

Shirley Moss, "The Chainmaker", specializes in handmade chains. Link by handmade link she uses pliers and patience to create a variety of chains. The creations are of silver, gold, copper or a marriage of metals using designs of ancient times. The end result is a strong yet fluid chain which will last for years to come.

Newest addition to the Port Townsend Gallery is returning member Kristen Wade. She brings a new collection of silver jewelry that focuses on the juxtaposition of texture and shape, along with a line of Botanical Prints Jewelry that uses live plants such as jasmine, strawberry and fig to create texture on the silver.

Martha Collins weaves wood. Her passion is to create personal, unique, one of a kind, works of art with the natural colors and grains of exotic woods and dyed maple veneer. Weaving wood is over a 100 step process of lamination, band saw slicing, re-orienting the material, re-lamination and lathe turning. What excites her is all the various possibilities of pattern created by the different thickness of the laminate. A bracelet or small Spirit Bowl can have up to 1200 pieces of wood in them.

Unique, intriguing, inspiring are just a few words that come to mind admiring Addy Thornton's art. She is a jewelry-maker who blends metal, yarn and gems, knitting, pearling and crocheting fabric and wire into intricate 3D designs. She says she has a particular fascination for weaving semi-precious gems into her designs. Addy researches each stone to learn of the particular energy and vibration it imparts.

The Port Townsend Gallery at 715 Water Street is open from 10 to 5 Sunday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. Please join the artists for the Gallery Walk from 5:30 to 8 pm on Saturday, December 1st. For more Gallery information, phone (360) 379-8110
