Northwind Arts Center invites the public to its latest Art in the Library opening reception at the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence Street, on Friday, October 26, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
The new exhibit is free and open to the public from October 26 to February 15.
Library visitors will enjoy art from the private collection of Elaine and Rene Levy displayed throughout the library, as well as small bird oil paintings by artist Musa Jaman displayed in the Charlie Moore Art Case. A piece from acclaimed and recently deceased artist and weaver Inge Norgaard will be exhibited in her honor.
Elaine Levy, and her late husband Rene, collected art for their Port Townsend home for many years. Their home was a spectacular showcase for the visual arts, largely art created by local artists. Elaine and Rene collected many paintings by their neighbor and well-known artist Lee Katzenbach, whose colorful work will be featured in the Carnegie Building's historic and well-lit stairwell. The collection on exhibit will also feature work by Ed Cain, Max Grover, JP Jones, Daniel Kerkhoff, Elaine Levy, Jeane Myers, Carol Heath Stabile, Barbara Thomson, Lucy Vane, Chris Witkowski, and Stephen Yates. In addition, art associated with The 1004 Gallery founding artists will be exhibited at the opening reception.
Sales revenue from the exhibit will benefit Elaine Levy, who has returned to her family in Illinois, and Northwind Arts Center.
Northwind Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization, and the City of Port Townsend sponsor the Art in the Library program. The goals of the Art in the Library program are to provide art for the enjoyment of library patrons and staff, to offer opportunities for visual artists and photographers to exhibit their work, and to decorate and honor Port Townsend's historic library.
Northwind also exhibits local art at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend, and at its two galleries at the arts center at 701 Water Street, Port Townsend.
