9pm: The Bottom Shelf Bourbon Trio (Vancouver, BC; blues & country). $5 cover.
The Bottom Shelf Bourbon Trio, from Vancouver, BC, are bringing their genre-bending blues and roots music to The Cellar Door. The eclectic, acoustic duo plays core roots music anchored between the lowdown grit and growl of early blues, the high lonesome sounds of bluegrass, and hardcore punk.
Their music, exploring such universal themes as substance abuse, infidelity, blue-collar angst, unrequited love, and wanderlust, reflects a melding of the Atlantic Canadian pickin' parties of Huston's Nova Scotian upbringing and Chris’ country blues guitar and unorthodox banjo picking, evocative of the deep southern sounds he was immersed in while at art school in Louisiana. BSBT is influenced by luminaries like Blind Blake, Victoria Spivey, Doc Boggs and contemporaries like The Devil Makes Three, Pokey Lafarge, and Mandolin Orange.
