In October the Port Townsend Gallery Presents Beverly McNeil, Ann Norton & Rebekah Cadorette
Beverly McNeil is a nature photographer who uses digital photography to share her passion of seeking and sharing the beauty of the fine details she sees in the flora and fauna that is all around us that many don't stop to observe and appreciate. She loves observing and recording her subjects in their natural environment, photographing subjects from butterflies to bears. She keeps her images as natural as possible and images are as what was seen through her lens. Her secret to getting some of her best shots: getting out there, being patient, and good luck. This month she will be presenting a variety of subjects, including macro images of flora and insects, scenery, and birds (her favorite subject).
Ann Norton and Rebekah Cadorette have over seventy years of spinning, dyeing, and weaving experience between them. Norton is featuring versatile garments made from specialty handspun and hand-dyed yarns. Warm and striking, her luxurious wraps are suitable for evening wear or curling up at home with a book. She will also feature a collection of elegant and timeless scarves in sophisticated blends of texture, pattern, and color that delight the hand as well as the eye.
Rebekah Cadorette has been focusing on the folk art of temari. In Japan, where temari evolved from child's toy to art, they are highly valued and cherished gifts, symbolizing deep friendship and loyalty. The brilliant colors and threads are meant to reflect a brilliant (and happy) life for the recipient. Cadorette enjoys the challenge of melding color, geometry, and intricate pattern to create heirloom ornaments. Having already been awarded Levels 1 and 2, she is currently working toward certification at Level 3 proficiency by the Japanese Temari Association.
