Artist Showcase 2018 – August 2 – August 26
The Artist Showcase 2018, in its 5th year, features the work of 36 artists from across the Northwest. The Showcase provides a professional exhibit space in which artworks are presented in a curated show that is changed monthly.
Featured Artist of the Month – Joe Wuts
Showcase Artist of the Month for August at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA is artisan/scuptor Joe Wuts.
Joe has worked his entire career as a carpentry contractor and kayak builder. He is a self-taught artist and learns new skills by doing and observing others. He won Best in Show in his first art show with his “art boat” and has been winning awards ever since. Most recently Joe won second place in sculpture at the prestigious Edmonds art show.
Joe works primarily with wood and stone. Many of his pieces are crafted with repurposed wood and others are sculpted with exotic hardwoods. His sculpted stone work is usually combined with wood for a provocative result. Joe is always exploring new methods and techniques including art created with electricity!
There is a touch of whimsy to some of Joe’s work and always the influence of the natural world inspired by mountaineering and backpacking the northwest peaks and paddling the wilderness.
