The Keg & I: Abakis, Jack Dwyer, Kendall Core
Monday, July 09, 2018, 05:00pm - 07:00pm

Drawing from the deep wells of jazz, folk, western swing and good ole' fashioned rock n' roll, these three troubadours will synthesize the best of all worlds in a rare intimate set. Don't miss! (FREE SHOW, TIPS WELCOME FOR TOURING BANDS!)

Abakis creates collaborative music that bridges new and old worlds: a delicate blend of classic soul led by powerhouse vocals and Kottke-style fingerpicking guitar. Born and bred in Virginia where she learned to sing jazz in her father's restaurant, Aba migrated westward to find collaborators in the woodland pockets of Washington State. After a sojourn in Brooklyn and points east, Aba has returned to Washington state to make the northwest her home. Her band Abakis and Company now sways with soulful folk and country swing, blending these together with elements of jazz. Stay tuned for more updates on her upcoming album.

Jack Dwyer
Jack Dwyer is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and teacher based in the Pacific Northwest. He records and performs original music under his own name and works as a freelance picker with some of the most respected Northwest and nationally-based musicians. He tours year round, teaches privately, and operates a recording studio in Port Townsend, WA. Formerly a resident of Portland, OR, he taught on the music faculty at Lewis and Clark College for 7 years.

Kendall Core
The gothic, Folk-Rock sounds of Kendall Core are quickly becoming a compelling presence in Portland, Oregon. Her debut album ‘Crazy Dog’ is inspired by the process of grief and healing.
The vulnerability of Core's lyrics are carried by a soulful warm tone, occasionally operatic, echoing with a haunted yearning (not without moments of diminished brightness.) Her voice cuts through, raw and pure, a perfect vehicle for slow and hard stories about the darker side of life. The lyrics are born of troublesome questions and truths leaving just a few windows where light breaks in. There is a guarded hope in her reflection along with time-worn wisdom, captivating when discovered in someone so young.
