Sandy HaightArtist Showcase 2018 - May 31 – July 1

The Artist Showcase 2018, in its 5th year, features the work of 36 artists from across the Northwest. The Showcase provides a professional exhibit space in which artworks are presented in a curated show that is changed monthly.

Featured Artist of the Month – Sandy Haight

Showcase Artist of the Month for June at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA is artist Sandy Haight. Sandy is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, NWWS, and 2016 poster artist for Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

Sandy earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting at the University of Colorado, and went on to establish a career as an illustrator. Sandy was introduced to watercolor in a life drawing session. "I loved the luminosity of the paints so much that I continued to practice all my assigned subjects as watercolor paintings in my School of Visual Concepts illustration courses." Use of watercolor in her illustration work became part of her signature style. To be more marketable, she departed from the realism she had worked hard to master into a more simplified, stylized, bolder look. Her illustration portfolio can be seen at

Sandy has been focused on painting the inner landscape of flowers for the last few years. She calls these works Floralscapes. They evolved during her transition from her career as an illustrator to her discovery of herself as an artist. Her gardens and travels provide endless inspiration to explore with a camera, zooming in on those sparks of color that most attract attention in the landscape.

"Enlarging and composing the bloom from the photo to fill a picture plane, I take the viewer into an abstract and sensual world," explains Sandy. "I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with watercolor or provide an opportunity to try new painting techniques." The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened her love of painting, giving her a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design. Visit to see her work.

The show runs from May 31st through July 1st.
