On Friday, September the 21st at 6pm, Taps at the Guardhouse at Fort Worden presents a solo performance by songwriter and instrumentalist Samara Jade. Hailing both from the mountains of western North Carolina and New York's Hudson Valley, Samara Jade has been in the Pacific Northwest for the past few months, and has been touring the West Coast. A musical seamstress, Samara Jade stitches together a intricate tapestry of catchy sounds from diverse musical strands. Jade's songwriting, her groove-based guitar work and the emotive power of her singing voice all draw upon influences such as orchestral folk, jazz, soul, blues, and Appalachian styles. Her songwriting inspired by iconic artists like Joni Mitchell, Samara Jade composes freshly surprising and emotionally relevant songs that approach subjects ranging from fermentation to bird songs. As heart-opening as it is mind-stimulating, Samara's music might be best described by her fans, one of whom dubbed it: 'Philosopholk'.
