Camille Dungy's Guidebook to Relative Strangers: Journeys into Race, Motherhood, and History. (W. W. Norton, 2017), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Roxane Gay called it "an elegant, meditative love letter to the life of the writer, the natural world, histories from which we cannot nor should not extricate ourselves, black womanhood, black motherhood, and the unabashed joy of raising up a black girl. . . . [A]s intimate as it is expansive." Dungy is also the author of four collections of poetry, most recently Trophic Cascade (Wesleyan UP, 2017), winner of the Colorado Book Award.
