Volunteer to remove invasive beach grass on MLK Jr. Day
During the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Monday, Jan. 20, volunteers from three organizations will remove invasive European dune grass on the bayside of Point Wilson in Fort Worden.
For the eighth year, AmeriCorps staff at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center will coordinate volunteers from the Science Center, Friends of Fort Worden, and Washington Native Plant Society.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring a garden digging fork or shovel, gloves, and their own water. Sign-in begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Science Center Museum classroom. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service to celebrate the civil rights leader’s life and legacy.
