In November the Port Townsend Gallery Presents Beverly McNeil & Mark Henthorn
After a long career as an architect and illustrator, Mark Henthorn has been painting land, sea and townscapes for a number of years, mostly in the West, but also from travels throughout the world. Since moving to Port Townsend, his favorite subjects center around the coast and the incredible character of this area. Mark's paintings tend toward the quieter, softer moods of the outdoors, with a special emphasis on the quality of light. He has painted in a variety of media, but now only in soft pastels or a mix of water base paint with oil pastels. He paints primarily in the studio, from a combination of photos and sketches done at the site. The ultimate satisfaction for Mark as an artist is to see joy in the eyes of those who look at and appreciate his work.
Beverly McNeil has had a love of nature since childhood. She grew up in Colorado and in her 20's moved to Alaska for adventure. Beverly lived for 12 years in a remote village 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle and was the sole health care provider there for 8 years. For a good stress reliever and life balance she became involved in solo hiking which led to photographing nature and birds locally as well as Costa Rica. She is a birding trip leader with the local Audubon chapter. Lately, she has added with mammals including mountain goats, grizzly bears and wolves to her photography. She is passionate about photographing animals in their natural environment. Beverly takes pride in leaving her photos as natural as possible. What you see in the photo is what she saw through the lens! Beverly hopes to inspire others to love and respect and protect our natural world!
