On Thursday, December 14, Northwind Reading Series presents PoetryMusic "Where Words and Music Meet" with Colleen O'Brien - voice / cello and Chris Lee - vibes / percussion. The performance begins at 7 p.m. in Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.
PoetryMusic is a world-class chamber jazz duo dedicated to performing poetry that has been set to music, music composed to poetry and poetry as a catalyst for free improvisation.
This multi-media performance includes an accompanying slide presentation with each poem projected on the screen along with photographic images so that the audience can follow the written word with the poem being sung.
The blending of words and music makes a powerful statement in the hands of these two gifted musicians. The orchestrations are beautifully crafted, allowing the emotional content of this collaboration of words and music to soar.
Although there are only two musicians, their musicality shines bright and gives this duo both strength and vulnerability. The sound of the vibraphone, cello and voice, and the setting of the poems, while unusual, is quite exquisite.
