Quimper Story Guild Monthly Swap
Sunday, August 20, 2017, 02:30pm - 04:30pm

Storytellers and listeners gather for the Quimper Story Guild’s monthly Story Swap on Sunday July 16th from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Port Townsend Public Library Learning Center, 1256 Lawrence St. The afternoon features a story swap by up to 7 tellers as well as activities and discussion to enhance the craft of storytelling. The guild welcomes listeners, those new to storytelling, as well as aspiring and seasoned tellers. First half hour is for planning and socializing.

Teller typically has 5 minutes to tell a story, and the option of attendees “feeding the story” or “feeding the teller”. In this way listeners get a couple of minutes to highlight what element / character / moment of the story stood out for them, or highlight what was noteworthy about the way the teller conveyed the story.

Attendees may sign up to tell when they arrive; availability is on a first-come basis. One 15 minute slot is available for someone who has prepared a longer telling. Stories are told, not read. Use of character voices, gestures, music, and props to enhance the telling of a story are welcomed. Stories shared last month included a self-playing ukulele, a father’s final words, and a resurfaced shipmate.

Launched in March 2017, the Quimper Story Guild is organized by locals to foster an appreciation for the art and tradition of storytelling in our Jefferson County communities. The group meets on the third Sunday of every month. For more information, contact Co-organizer Perry Spring at 360-316-9600 or QuimperStoryGuild@gmail.com.
