About the film: In March 1940, the author John Steinbeck and his friend the marine biologist Ed Ricketts sailed down from California to the Sea of Cortez. With World War II looming, they sought a new understanding of mankind’s relationship to the natural world. Along the way, they witnessed our rising impact on the ocean and the devastating impact that over-fishing would have on this rich sea. Can the story of their journey inspire new efforts to preserve the Sea of Cortez?
A brief introduction will be provided by special guest Susan Shillinglaw, Director of the National Steinbeck Institute.
